Boats are universally known as metaphors for journeys, and a safe passage to the other shore. For navigating our way, whether in the ordinary or the non-ordinary worlds or the passage between birth, life and death.

A boat is often seen as a symbol of slow soul movement.

I began making boats during a time of transition after journeying with Indigenous peoples of Alaska, America, Australia and Tibet. A gift of sharing family, homes, community and culture. Thus the boats evolved.

Initially, passengers were implied but not directly visible in the boats. Slowly little beings were scanning the horizons and waves and began to be an integral part of the works.

These figures developed to represent people, family, community and connection to all life.

Birds, another symbol of transformation joined the travellers, followed by fish, whales, animals and ceremonial figures.

The Journey continues....
